Setup

Offence starts with a numbers edge (e.g. 3-on-2) going one way.

Steps

  1. 1On the turnover/shot, defenders sprint back below the ball.
  2. 2First defender back stops the ball at the arc.
  3. 3Second protects the rim.
  4. 4Talk and match up as help arrives; force a tough shot.

Coaching points

  • Sprint back below the ball first, sort out who you've got second.
  • Stop the ball, protect the rim — buy time.
  • Communicate the match-ups loudly.

Why kids love it

Most easy baskets come in transition — practising the scramble back prevents them.

Variations

Harder

Make it 4-on-3 or 5-on-4.
