What this drill teaches

Non-stop dribbling reps disguised as a silly game. Each 'injury' takes a hand away, so kids end up dribbling one-handed while laughing — adapting the handle on the fly without ever being told to.

In games: Players who can keep the dribble going when something goes wrong — a bump, a fumble, a hand tied up — don't hand the ball over the moment a game gets untidy.

What good looks like
  • The dribble never stopping, even mid-tag or 'injured'
  • Kids adapting to dribble with whichever hand is free
  • Heads up while hunting for someone to tag

U8: no tagging for the first minute — just dribbling in the box is the win. U10: expect tags on the weak hand and clever use of the doctor.

Equipment

1 ball each

Setup

Everyone dribbles in a box; everyone is a tagger.

Steps

  1. 1Tag another player (light touch) while dribbling.
  2. 2Each time you're tagged, hold that spot with one hand (an 'injury').
  3. 3Three injuries and you do a fun forfeit, then rejoin fresh.
  4. 4Keep dribbling the whole time.

Coaching points

  • Protect the ball while tagging.
  • Keep your head up.
  • Keep moving even while 'injured'.

Why kids love it

The silly 'injuries' get big laughs while everyone dribbles non-stop.

Variations

Harder

Weak hand only.

Easier

No tagging for the first minute — just dribble and dodge inside the box.

Doctor

Nominate one doctor who can heal a wounded teammate with a two-hand touch.
