What this drill teaches
Shooting under one-shot pressure. Having to match someone else's make — with a letter on the line — puts real stakes on a single attempt, which is exactly what game shooting feels like and practice usually doesn't.
In games: Builds shooters who can handle 'this one matters' — the free throw everyone is watching, the open look late — without the safety net of ten more attempts.

U10: play PIG from close spots and expect wild trick-shot calls. U14–U16: expect smart shot selection and calls taken off the dribble or a pivot.
Equipment
1 ball per hoop
Setup
Small groups at a hoop, one ball.
Steps
- 1Player 1 calls and makes a shot.
- 2Everyone else must make the same shot.
- 3Miss a matched shot and you get a letter (H, then O…).
- 4Spell HORSE and you're out; last player wins.
Coaching points
- Pick shots you can actually make.
- Be creative but fair.
- Good sportsmanship — no impossible trick shots for U10.

Variations
Play PIG (3 letters) and shoot from close spots.
Every called shot must be taken off the dribble or off a pivot — no set feet.
Replace called shots with a fixed loop of five spots — miss and you drop back one spot.
